The government of Canada has
announced reforms to the Live-in Caregiver Program in
November 2014.
The reforms do not influence caregivers who want to
apply for work in Canada under this program, mostly
the changes are for those who are already in Canada
working. The requirements for new applicants have not
changed.
The improvements for those who already work as nannies
or caregivers in Canada will mean:
-
Faster processing time
for Permanent Resident Status
-
Faster family
reunification – caregivers will bring their families
to Canada in a shorter period of time
-
Better career
opportunities in future
-
Better protection
against potential abuse at work
-
The live-in requirement
for caregivers has been ended, now foreign in-home
workers can live out and do not have to stay in
their employer's home.
